The Sustainable Agriculture Movement
The sustainable agriculture movement is focused on the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, the environment, human health, and communities. The movement promotes environmentally, socially and economically sustainable methods. There are four primary aspects that the movement addresses:
- Organic farming systems that restore and conserve natural resources, including soil, water and nutrients.
- Self-sustaining local organic food supplies that improve nutrition and feed community members.
- Environmental protection from soil degradation, trash and food packaging materials, and agricultural chemicals to create a healthy ecology between people, animals, plants, and the environment.
- A self-reliant, economically prosperous, resilient, healthy, and thriving community.
